Maddaddam Trilogy

Objective & Role: 
This project was one of my final assignments before receiving my Bachelor of Design degree. The ask was to pick a book trilogy and redesign the covers of all three novels. I needed to design the exterior covers (front and back), interior page layouts, as well as print and bind the books together. The designs needed to breathe new life into the subject matter of the novels. ​
Approach & Final Results: 
  • Margaret Atwood is a prominent author and a major point of interest for a book purchase, therefore, I chose to feature her name on the cover and have the title appear secondary in the overall hierarchy. 
  • Each cover features evocative biblical imagery that plays a central component in each book. 
  • I used a consistent colour palette with muted shades to play off the dystopian subject matter of the novels. 
  • For the interior pages, I chose to have very prominent chapter breaks marked by a dark page colour. This was to represent the book’s shifts between different character’s first-person perspectives. 
  • I chose a traditional page layout for the interior including a serif for text readability. ​
